In 2021, the group made 16 billion dollars in profits, or around 14 billion euros. But, in France, TotalEnergies has not reaped profits, because refining, its main activity in France, is losing ground. In 2022, the oil and gas giant, however, reaped huge profits: the French group more than doubled its net profit in the second quarter, to 5.7 billion dollars, once morest 2.2 billion during the same quarter in 2021.
In the first quarter of 2022, the group had recorded 4.9 billion in profits. Profits which have been at their highest for at least fifteen years, following a loss of 7.2 billion dollars (around 6.1 billion euros) in 2020 due to the Covid-19 crisis. Like all major groups, TotalEnergies distributes dividends to its shareholders: nearly 7 billion euros in 2021.
