The SPÖ politician referred to an impending wave of retirements among doctors. Hacker demands that the training places at medical universities be almost doubled and made the turquoise-green federal government responsible. “In ten years we will have a shortage of doctors, so in retrospect today’s lack of care will look like a little lark in comparison,” he said. In Vienna, consideration is also being given to supporting private universities in order to increase the number of medical students.
