In an interview with the Vietnamese News Agency (VNA), the Cuban diplomat stressed the importance of this visit by one of Vietnam’s top leaders to Cuba, at the invitation of the President of the Assembly National People’s Power of Cuba, Esteban Lazo Hernández.

This visit comes in the context where the two countries are preparing many activities to commemorate the 50e anniversary of the visit of leader Fidel Castro to the liberated zone of South Vietnam in Quang Tri (September 1973) and the 60e of the creation of the Cuban Committee of Solidarity with South Vietnam (September 25, 1963), he said, adding that Fidel Castro was the first and only foreign head of state to visit the liberated zone of South Vietnam .

Indicating that Vuong Dinh Huê will deliver a speech to the National Assembly of Cuba on April 19, the Cuban ambassador affirmed that it would be a historic and extremely special event because it would be a very important day for Cuba, the day of the Victory of Playa de Girón (April 19). It will also be the day when the 10e Cuba’s National Assembly will hold its first session after the March 26 general elections.

According to the Cuban ambassador, the two countries maintain fraternal relations and support each other in the struggle for development, the defense of sovereignty and independence.

As two socialist countries, led by the Vietnamese and Cuban Communist Parties, Vietnam and Cuba pursue the same thing: a better life and social justice for the people, each in its development model. According to the Cuban ambassador, this is an opportunity for the two countries, through their privileged relations, to develop a profound exchange of experiences.

In addition, Cuba and Vietnam have important areas to complement their economies. Vietnam is a major supplier of many products to the Caribbean country, including rice and technology products. And Cuba, for its part, has developed sectors where there are traditional products such as tobacco, rum, and has made great advances in genetic engineering, biotechnology, the pharmaceutical industry and medicine.

Regarding the cooperation ties between the two legislative bodies, Orlando Hernández Guillén recalled that these relations have existed for a long time, playing a vital role for the socio-economic development of each country.

He said that during the visit, the two sides will discuss their cooperation in various fields and sign many important agreements.
