□ Foreign Minister Park Jin, who is on an official visit to Vietnam, visited Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chin in the morning and afternoon of 10.18 (Tuesday), respectively. We discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and mutual interests.

□ Minister Park evaluated that the two countries have developed an exemplary win-win cooperation relationship that is at a level that the world envy over the past 30 years. He hoped to cooperate closely with the Vietnamese side to deepen the situation.

o President Phuc and Prime Minister Ching said that they are pleased that the two countries have agreed to upgrade relations this year, and will further enhance cooperation in various fields such as ▲high-level exchanges and ▲defense and defense industry in line with the upgraded Korea-Vietnam relationship. The two governments agreed to work together to achieve this.

ㅇ In particular, Minister Park delivered a personal letter from President Yun Seok-yeol inviting President Phuc to visit Korea on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

□ Minister Park congratulated Vietnam on successfully overcoming the COVID-19 crisis and maintaining solid growth under the guidance of President Phuc and Prime Minister Ching, while also congratulating the two countries on substantive cooperation such as ▲trade and investment, and ▲development cooperation. He suggested that we continue to make efforts to contribute to the development of this mutually beneficial and future-oriented bilateral relationship.

ㅇ In particular, Minister Park emphasized that Korea is the number one foreign investor in Vietnam, and that Korean companies in Vietnam are playing an important role as a spearhead for Vietnam’s economic development and economic cooperation between the two countries. It requested support from the Vietnamese government to expand economic activities of Korean companies and to resolve difficulties. In response, President Phuc and Prime Minister Ching highly valued the contribution of Korean compatriots and businesses to Vietnam and said that they would actively support their activities.

□ The two sides also shared the view that people-to-people exchanges between the two countries need to be expanded and restored to the pre-COVID-19 level as soon as possible. They agreed to cooperate with each other to promote safety and convenience.

□ Meanwhile, Minister Park explained in detail the ROK government’s policies, such as ▲continuous strengthening of ASEAN-ROK relations through the ‘Korea-ASEAN coexistence solidarity building’ and ▲the efforts to denuclearize North Korea through the ‘Bold Initiative’. Prime Minister Ching said that he actively supports the Korean government’s efforts.

□ Minister Park explained the Korean government’s efforts to host the 2030 Busan World Expo and asked for Vietnam’s support, and President Phuc and Prime Minister Ching said that they would actively consider them.
