Many localities have markedly improved
During the last Tet holiday, many provinces and cities recorded a sudden growth in tourists. In particular, the number of international visitors has shown clear signs of growth compared to the same period in 2022. According to statistics of the National Administration of Tourism, during the 7 days of the Lunar New Year (from December 29 to the 5th of the Lunar New Year), the whole country estimated serving 9 million domestic tourists (an increase of about 47.5% over the same period). The number of international visitors to Vietnam during the Lunar New Year also increased sharply compared to the 2023 New Year. Accommodation establishments recorded the number of international guests booking 30-40% of the total number of bookings during Tet.
According to the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism, during the 5 days of Tet from January 22-26, 2023, the locality welcomed about 660,000 visitors, more than twice the same period last year. The occupancy rate of accommodation facilities is around 60-70%. In the first two days of the Lunar New Year, Yen Tu Relics and Scenic Areas welcomed nearly 10,000 tourists, 50% higher than normal days and will continue to increase. Sun World Ha Long tourist area maintains a stable number of visitors and reaches about 1,500 – 3,000 visitors/day.
This year, Tay Ninh “Holy Land” is still one of the most attractive tourist attractions in the South with the total number of visitors in 7 days of Tet estimated at 621,703 turns, an increase of more than 10% over the same period. Total revenue from tourism is estimated at more than 293 billion VND; increased by nearly 89% over the same period. In which, Sun World Ba Den Mountain Resort is the most attractive destination with more than 400,000 visitors. Sun World Ba Den Mountain with many exciting activities and experiences will last until the end of January.

In Lao Cai, this year with the return of Chinese tourists after a long absence due to the epidemic, the number of tourists coming to the locality tends to increase sharply. According to statistics from Lao Cai Department of Tourism, on 7 days of Tet, the locality is estimated to welcome 255,013 visitors, an increase of 160% over the same period in 2022. In which, Sa Pa welcomes about 89,000 visitors with the average room capacity of the guests. 3-5 star hotels reach 90-95%. Total revenue from tourists is estimated at 892 billion VND, up 106% over the same period; in which international visitors are estimated at 19 billion dong. With many unique and diverse activities, Sun World Fansipan Legend continues to be an attractive destination in the New Year, the number of visitors increased by 126% over the same period last year.

Kien Giang is also considered a “star” to attract tourists during Tet in the South. According to the National Administration of Tourism, in 7 days of Tet, Kien Giang is estimated to serve 339,634 visitors, up 15.4% over the same period, total revenue is estimated at 374.9 billion VND, up 166.4% over the same period; the average occupancy rate reached 67.6%, up 20.1% over the same period. Phu Quoc city alone is estimated to welcome 185,099 visitors, up 23.6% over the same period; in which international arrivals reached 13,851 arrivals, up 184.5% over the same period.
The “new spring” of the tourism industry?
In order to prepare for a prosperous Tet tourism season, many localities and destinations have actively invested in elaborate activities and programs for the Lunar New Year.
