SAN FRANCISCO — Viettel, Vietnam’s leading telecom and digital services group, has joined the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) as a Gold Member, signaling a deepening commitment to open source cloud native technologies across telecom, government, and enterprise sectors.
The CNCF,which stewards cloud native ecosystems, announced Viettel’s Gold Member status as part of its ongoing drive to expand collaboration around Kubernetes,OpenStack, and related open source projects. Viettel’s regional footprint and production experience are expected to bolster cloud native initiatives at scale.
“Open source sits at the core of Viettel’s cloud strategy,” said Hieu Le, chief information officer of Viettel Networks. “Elevating our engagement with the CNCF as a Gold Member will let us share real‑world know‑how from nationwide cloud deployments and collaborate globally to advance secure, scalable, and sovereign cloud native technologies that support Vietnam’s digital infrastructure.”
Viettel already operates one of Southeast Asia’s largest open source cloud infrastructures, with deployments spanning OpenStack and Kubernetes to support government, business, and critical national workloads. The company focuses on cloud native networking and offers a suite of cloud services, container platforms, security isolation, AI/ML infrastructure, and edge computing. Viettel plans to contribute its telecom‑grade operations experience to CNCF projects and events, including past participation in KubeCon + cloudnativecon discussions on scaling cloud infrastructure in the telco space.
Jonathan Bryce, executive director of CNCF, welcomed the move.He noted that Viettel’s experience with Kubernetes and OpenStack at national scale, combined with work in AI infrastructure and cloud computing, adds a valuable regional outlook to the global open source ecosystem. The Gold membership offers closer collaboration on key CNCF initiatives and helps accelerate innovation across open source infrastructure, cloud platforms, and emerging technologies like edge computing and AI.
