Ville.Science – Digital data and municipalities

2023-06-15 04:03:21

The Ville.Science project aims to paint a portrait of the use of digital data by municipalities in Quebec. In a context where digital technology is increasingly present and becoming essential in the functioning of public administration, it is necessary to document and understand how digital data is used, controlled and managed.

A first data collection made it possible to reach 243 respondents from 176 municipalities and 16 administrative regions of Quebec. This first portrait shows the differences in the practices of municipalities depending on their size, the importance given to the security and protection of sensitive data, as well as the need to set up support and frameworks for the collection, storage, use and management of digital data in municipalities.

This project was carried out in collaboration with the International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of AI and Digital Technology (OBVIA) and the Office of the Chief Scientist of Quebec. This project is inspired by the national survey on the use of digital data by local public actors carried out in France by the Data Publica Observatory.
