Vin Diesel Says Fast Forever Starts Shooting in December

Vin Diesel announced that filming for Fast Forever, the 11th and final mainline film in the Fast & Furious franchise, is scheduled to begin in December. The project, which hits theaters on March 17, 2028, follows four years of development and four different screenwriters.

Four Years of Development and Tears Over the Final Script

The path to the franchise’s conclusion has required a lengthy creative journey. Variety revealed that the screenplay for the concluding film involved four distinct sets of writers over a four-year development window. Speaking at a screening celebrating the 25th anniversary of the series, the actor shared a personal reaction to reading the completed draft.

“I’m in a good place, though. I had to go through four sets of writers, four years of development, to get to something that I felt would be worthy of a finale. And when I read the script a couple of weeks ago, [I cried].”

Diesel elaborated on the emotional weight of the finale during the event, recounting how the culmination of years of work affected him while turning the pages. By the end of the script that we crafted and worked so hard to make right for you after four years, I was crying, he told the audience, noting that his sister responded by telling him not to cry anymore.

Universal Pictures Box Office History and the 2028 Release Timeline

“Fast Forever” is officially positioned as the 11th feature film to conclude the main storyline of Universal Pictures’ longest-running and most profitable property. The overarching franchise has accumulated a worldwide box office gross of $7.3 billion across its history.

Production on the finale is set to kick off in December, pending final studio arrangements, setting up a theatrical release window centered on March 17, 2028. While Diesel has expressed total confidence in the finalized draft, other key figures behind the camera have navigated the production timeline differently.

Director Perspectives on the Final Chapter

While the franchise lead is already celebrating the completed screenplay, director Louis Leterrier offered a more guarded update regarding his own familiarity with the text. Leterrier noted that he has not yet read the script, maintaining enthusiasm for the project while keeping details under wraps.

“I’d love to tell you the full truth, but I can’t. There will be an ending, and it’s great. I was very, very lucky to be part of the franchise, and I love Vin and I love Universal. They’re great to work with. So yeah. We’ll see, hopefully.”
