Vin Nexus Center: A Scientifically Designed School for Special Needs Education

by

HUNG YEN, Vietnam – Vingroup Corporation is preparing to open the Vin Nexus Center, a non-profit special education school designed to serve children aged 2 to 18 with a range of cognitive, behavioral, and learning challenges, including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and learning disabilities. The center, located in Vinhomes Ocean Park 3, Nghia Tru, is slated to begin welcoming students in September 2026.

The Vin Nexus Center represents a significant investment by Vingroup in addressing educational gaps for children with special needs, offering a model based on international standards and a commitment to early intervention. According to Vingroup, the center aims to provide personalized education pathways based on individual psychological and educational profiles, fostering learning abilities, independent living skills, and social integration.

The design of the Vin Nexus Center goes beyond traditional school infrastructure, incorporating scientifically designed interventions to support students facing cognitive, behavioral, and learning obstacles. The building itself is shaped like a heart, symbolizing empathy and compassion, core values of the institution. This design reflects the concept of “Vin Nexus” as a convergence point for specialists, teachers, and parents working collaboratively to support students.

Inside, the center features specialized functional spaces including hydrotherapy pools, sensory stimulation rooms, quiet rooms, simulation spaces, and age-appropriate intervention rooms. These spaces are designed to address the specific needs of different student groups, ensuring pedagogical effectiveness and long-term support. A key element is the integration of calming spaces, strategically placed to reduce sensory stress, promote concentration, and foster a sense of security and independence.

The center’s outdoor spaces are also integral to the therapeutic approach. A quiet garden utilizes greenery, natural materials, and secluded seating areas as “safe anchor points” for students experiencing anxiety or sensory overload. Conversely, a dedicated physical activity area provides a safe outlet for students with high physical activity needs, promoting emotional regulation and reducing impulsive behaviors. Greenhouses and experimental gardens serve as experiential therapy spaces, where activities like planting, tending, and harvesting develop planning skills, behavioral management, and provide a natural context for speech therapy and small-group communication.

Classrooms are designed for flexibility, transforming from communal spaces to personalized learning environments to meet individual student needs. Quiet rooms offer a refuge for emotional regulation, while sensory regulation rooms help students manage stimulation levels, stabilizing emotions and improving behavioral control. The hydrotherapy pool, maintained at a consistent 33-36°C, utilizes massage jets and buoyancy to facilitate movement and regulate sensations. Individual and small-group intervention rooms prioritize privacy and visual minimalism to create a safe and focused therapeutic environment.

To prepare students for independent living, the center includes a simulated apartment where students can practice daily self-care routines and essential life skills. A practical vocational training complex, featuring a mini-supermarket and simulated café, allows students to refine basic service industry skills, such as bartending, waitstaff duties, and cashier work, preparing them for future employment opportunities. An arts and crafts workshop serves as a multifunctional space for STEM and artistic subjects, fostering hands-on learning and skill development.

The Vin Nexus Center incorporates both the WELL Building Standards, developed by the International WELL Building Institute, and the ASPECTSS™ design framework created by British architect Magda Mostafa. These standards focus on optimizing air quality, lighting, acoustics, and safety, while ASPECTSS™ is specifically designed for individuals with special educational needs. Vingroup states that these standards aim to improve health, safety, and educational engagement for all students.
