Longtime impresario of WWE, America’s wrestling empire, Vince McMahon has reportedly agreed to pay more than $12 million over the past 16 years to silence allegations of sexual misconduct and infidelity, according to the Wall Street Journal.
This sum is considerably higher than what was known in the public sphere.
Also according to the American daily, four women – all formerly linked to WWE – signed contracts with the 76-year-old man who prohibited them from talking about their relationship with him.
McMahon stepped down as Chairman and CEO of WWE in mid-June, pending the investigation into allegations of misconduct. McMahon, however, continues to oversee the creative side of WWE during the investigation.
At the time of the announcement, the Wall Street Journal said McMahon paid $3 million to a former paralegal who said she suffered sexual harassment in her workplace.
WWE has named Vince McMahon’s daughter, Stephanie McMahon, as interim president and CEO for the duration of the investigation.
The company said it will not comment until the investigation is complete.
