A video goes viral in Italy.

The footage shows a fight between waiters and tourists in Venice.

Local residents claim that tourists are becoming increasingly rude.

Wild scenes in the center of Venice: There was a fight between waiters and foreign customers in front of the very centrally located “Gran Caffè Chioggia”. Videos on social media show the staff of the historic café overlooking the Palazzo Ducale a group of tourists beaten. The men kicked and slapped each other, and one of the seven waiters involved held a chair over his chest to protect himself.

The argument broke out last Sunday in broad daylight when guests asked to use the toilet. When the restaurant staff refused to let the men in because they hadn’t consumed anything, they were said to have reacted very angrily, writes the portal “La Nuova Venezia”.

Consumption is mandatory

According to the local newspaper, the waiters repeatedly explained to the four tourists that they would have something to consume if they wanted to use the toilets. There was an argument and then the guests became violent.

The incident has reignited the debate about the behavior of tourists in Venice. According to some residents, foreign guests are too often rude and disrespectful to workers.

Rude tourists, impatient staff

City councilor Sebastiano Costalonga is outraged by the video, which has now gone viral: “I don’t think we’ve ever seen scenes like this in St. Mark’s Square. Despite the rudeness of some tourists who really went beyond the limits, something like this shouldn’t happen again.”

Costalonga said he was not justifying the waiters’ actions, but was trying to understand the context of the incident. The staff reacted “certainly excessively” – but the violence used by the tourists was still unacceptable.
