On January 3, several people intervened while a couple argued violently at Mons station, near the bus bound for Colfontaine. According to witnesses, the man was very violent in his gestures and words. They told the police that he pulled the partner’s hair and hit her.

On Monday, he appeared before the criminal court, detained, to answer for the beatings suffered by his partner. “I had been drinking, but I didn’t hit her. Or maybe it was unintentional,” he says. Rémy knows that he is at great risk, he has already been convicted of domestic violence. Moreover, the court revoked a suspended sentence because he did not respect the conditions, including that of no longer touching alcohol.

The latter notes that two judgments, sentencing Rémy to five years and one year, establish the aggravating circumstance of repeat offense. The last time, the scene of violence against his partner took place in front of a child.
Electronic monitoring
His lawyer pleads for the court’s utmost leniency, recalling that Rémy requested to be held under electronic surveillance at his mother’s house. The steps have been started. In the meantime, he is staying in Tournai prison, an old 19th century building eaten away by humidity.
Since the events, Rémy and his partner have broken up, while maintaining good contact for their children.
