Every year, a day of mobilization against cystic fibrosis is organized in France. This event is called Virades of Hope, and has existed since 1985. The goal: to bring together as many participants as possible to collect money to allow all patients to live better, in the hope of being cured. Thus, research programs are funded, as are nursing positions and projects aimed at improving care and the quality of life of patients and their families.

Arthur, 12 years old, suffers from cystic fibrosis

In 2023, 250 manifestations will be organized throughout France. In Hondainville (Oise)a few kilometers from Beauvais, Stephanie Pentak and her husband Jean-François will organize their 5e wrapped hondainvilloise. «Our son, Arthurturned 12 on September 2says Stéphanie. A month after his birth, we learned that he had cystic fibrosis after a screening. Today he is doing pretty well. He is lucky to benefit from the new Kaftrio treatment. The disease being incurable it does not cure, but it improves the quality of life of patients.»

Following this, the family wanted to get involved in the Vaincre la cystic fibrosis association. “I didn’t know the association at all, a friend told me about a trip to Compiègne, I went there to run a creative leisure standsays Stéphanie. I remained a volunteer for three years in Compiègne, then three years in Beauvais. Those who managed the Beauvais branch had been there for more than 30 years, they wanted me to take over. I agreed, on the condition of organizing the trips to Hondainville. So I took over the organization in 2019.»

Throughout the year, the small family, helped by a few volunteers, organizes a handful of small events which allow them to raise a little money: mountain bike outings, a presence at several Christmas markets, at a few flea markets… But the The most anticipated event remains the virade.

“Give breath to those who have none”

This year it will take place on Sunday September 24, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Vert Pommier, in Hondainville. Its theme will be “Street performance”. From 9 a.m., a family treasure hunt will be offered, as well as a discovery walk for adults.

From 10 a.m., Arthur will finish his sporting challenge, started on June 17, and will take the last start of his bike tour. “Arthur wanted to do something that was close to his heart, a cycling challengesays his mother. We organized themed outings throughout the summer. It’s unifying.» «Last year I did 1,000 km», smiled Arthur.

After the aperitif offered, catering will be offered on site, with homemade fries. In the afternoon, zumba and capoeira demonstrations will be organized, as well as street entertainment including fire eaters, jugglers, inflatable structures, etc. A bubble flashmob will end this festive day at 6 p.m.
