Virginia Hospital Celebrates 12 Pregnant Employees in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Twelve employees of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of a hospital in Virginia have something very special, but unusual at the same time, in common.

In a social media post, Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC) announced that a dozen of its employees are pregnant. These are 10 registered nurses, a nurse practitioner and a unit secretary.

“There’s something in the water, as some would say,” joked Kaylee Arsenault, the NICU’s director of nursing. “Historically, we have never seen so many team members in our unit pregnant at the same time in a year.”

The hospital explained that the deliveries began in March when the first girl was born, followed by baby number two, another girl, in May. Currently, four babies are expected to be born in July, three in August, one in September and one in October.

Haley Bradshaw, who is expecting her second child, recounted in an interview with TODAY that the most she has enjoyed about the process is the mutual support with her peers.

“We all feel extremely supported and don’t have to worry too much if someone needs something. We’re all here to step in and help if someone takes a break or has a doctor’s appointment,” she explained, who is 35 weeks pregnant.

Like Bradshaw, Jackie Cox believes that living this stage together has strengthened the ties of motherhood in the department.

“We work better as a team because we know what awaits us,” he said.

They both told TODAY that they “plan to work through the end of their pregnancies and it will save you a trip to the hospital.”

“We are excited for our team members and look forward to sharing photos with you later this year when all 12 babies are together,” the RRMC concludes. Look here the photos.
