Virginia: Six-year-old boy assaults a teacher with a firearm; minor is detained

The local police chief, Steve Drew declared, according to the cadena CNNwhat the minor is in custody after having shot at a primary school teacher and approximately 30 years of age.

According to the information that has circulated, the events, which are already being investigated by the US authorities, occurred in a Newport News District Richneck College classroom.

“The individual is a 6-year-old student. He is currently in police custody (…) We have been in contact with our Commonwealth lawyer and a few other entities to help us better get services to this young man.”

Through a press conference, the Virginia police chief explained that the woman is in critical conditionbecause the injuries that it presents, are considered life-threatening.

However, Steve Drew acknowledged in front of the media that in the teacher there is “some improvement”although he stated that the situation was not an “accidental shooting.”

How did the Virginia shooting happen?

The authorities explained that there was a altercation between the teacher and the minorwho carried the firearm, whose origin is unknown, and finally fired only one bullet.

“We’ll do the investigation, there are questions we want to ask and find out. I want to know where that firearm came from, what the situation was.”

In turn, the superintendent of the Newport News public schools, George Parker, indicated in a press conference that the elementary school will be closed the next school day.

“I am shocked and heartbroken. We need to educate our children and we need to keep them safe.”

After the shooting in Virginia, where a 6-year-old boy shot his teacher, George Parker said that the community support to keep firearms “out of the reach of young people”.
