Hatsune Miku is a voice software, and its anthropomorphic representation, which is a 16-year-old girl with long turquoise pigtails, has become a virtual idol representing Japan’s otaku culture, offering live concerts through projections on the scenery.
Multiple official Twitter accounts shared illustrations to celebrate the occasion. The videogame Project Sekai feat. Hatsune Miku shared a visual made by “KEI (@keigarou)“; while Spirituala figure maker, also shared a special commemorative illustration.
The character’s name comes from the fusion of the Japanese words for “first” (first time), “sound” (sound ne) and “future” (Miku), thus meaning “the first sound of the future”, referring to its position as the first of the “Character Vocal Series” of Crypton Future Media. Hatsune Miku was the first Vocaloid developed by Crypton Future Media after handling the release of Yamaha’s vocals, Meiko y Kaito. Miku was meant to be the first in a series of Vocaloids called “Character Vocal Series”, which included the Kagamine Rin/Len y Megurine Luka. Each had a particular concept and vocal direction.
Crypton released Hatsune Miku on August 31, 2007, with the idea of releasing Miku as “an android diva in the world of the near future where songs are lost“. Hatsune Miku was released for Vocaloid 3 on August 31, 2013, including an English vocal library. It was the first Vocaloid to be developed by the company, after those developed by Yamaha Corporation“Meiko” y “Kaito“, making it the third Vocaloid to be sold commercially by the company.
