We still don’t know if the Apple Vision Pro it will be a success or not, but one thing is certain: it marked Apple’s entry into a market completely different from anything the company had done before.

If the world of spatial computing is something new for her, imagine just for the developers, who will be responsible for creating applications for the visionOS and make the headset experience richer and more complete.

To facilitate the work of this class, Apple yesterday announced a series of tools and activities that will help developers understand how the device’s operating system works and how best to test their creations in practice.

To start the conversation, Apple explained on its page for developers that it will make available, at the end of this montha visionOS simulator on the Xcode so people can start getting their hands dirty — remembering that the headset will only be launched in early 2024.

visionOS SDK arrives later this month [ao Xcode] and there’s plenty to do in the meantime! Find out how to wrap your existing apps and games.

In addition, at this first moment, it will be possible to request compatibility assessments of the apps created for the Apple Vision Pro. In other words, whenever the developer submits an app for review, the Apple team itself will be in charge of alerting about possible gaps and making suggestions so that the application can take full advantage of the headset’s resources — which includes apps for iPhones and iPads taken to Vision Pro.

Even so, anyone who wants to test their app on the headset itself will have two options: request their own software development kit or participate in one of the face-to-face experiences organized by Apple in its laboratories in the cities of Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai , Singapore and Tokyo. Apple, however, has not yet given a date for any of these possibilities.

The company, it is worth remembering, even made available a Mac mini development kit with Apple Silicon in 2020, which was equipped with an A12Z Bionic chip and cost US$ 500 – although the developers were forced to return it after a while. Apparently, more information about this new kit will be made available soon.
