Vismaya’s father Trivikraman Nair had told the court that her husband Kiran was constantly harassing her because she did not like the dowry car and the gold was missing. At the time of the marriage, he agreed to give 101 pawans of gold, 1.2 acres of land and a car. Due to Kovid situation, he was able to pay only Rs 80 crore. Kiran, who came home for the wedding, did not like the car he bought. He told his daughter that he could buy another car on his wedding day. It was only when she weighed the gold to put in the locker that Kiran realized that there was less. The car was also found to have a bank loan. In the name of this, amazement pervaded.

Later, during the journey, Vismaya was beaten at Chittumala. After attending Kiran’s sister’s son’s birthday party, he allegedly took his daughter home in a car and harassed her over dowry. Meanwhile, his son Vijith was also injured in the incident. When Kiran returned from treatment at the hospital, her father, a relative and two motor vehicle department officials were at home. On January 11, when he went to invite his son Vijith to his wedding, Vismaya realized that he was in trouble again and called him home. Kiran and her relatives did not attend her son’s wedding.

After the marriage, the daughter told her daughter-in-law all the details. He was in touch with a community organization to end the marriage. Kiran, who arrived on March 25 to take part in the discussion, took her daughter away on March 17 to avoid a case. He further added that Kiran had blocked his and his son’s phone numbers and Facebook.

On June 21, Kiran’s father called Vismaya to the hospital. Trivikraman Nair had said that he came to know about the death on the way to the hospital. The witness also identified in court that the conversation between Kiran and Trivikraman Nair was obtained from Kiran’s phone.

Vismaya’s mother Sajitha V Nair had also revealed in court that Kiran’s father had said that all the problems would be solved if the dowry was promised.

It was okay for a while after the wedding. The harassment started when he went to put the gold in the locker saying that it was not in the stated quantity. The daughter told the full story of the abuse when she was called home in connection with Vismaya’s brother’s wedding. The community organization was then informed. Her mother said she was told to adapt to the circumstances in the hope that the dowry would solve the problems.

Witness Sajitha identified the recorded conversations on her own phone and the voices of Kiran and her relatives in court. She informed her husband Vijith and her parents that a child studying for an Ayurveda course could not bear to lose his identity and do so. On March 17, Vismaya was taken away from Kiran College, where she was to be discussed following a complaint lodged at a hand meeting. After that, Vismaya cut ties with him. Kiran blocked the phone. Revathi identified her phone and Vismaya’s messages in court. According to Special Public Prosecutor G Mohanraj, the screenshots of the messages were given to the media on the day of Vismaya’s death.

Ajesh, a motor vehicle department official who was Kiran’s colleague, testified that he went to the Chadayamangalam police station knowing that Kiran had been detained. He also went to Vismaya’s house and talked about the problem affecting his work. The witness stated that the problem was related to the car and then the problem was solved at the station.

Prabhakaran Pillai, Grama Panchayat Secretary, Nilamel, who registered the marriage of Vismaya and Kiran, and Rajesh, Federal Bank Branch Manager, Nilamel. Fatima, N.S. Hospital Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Sreekumar and Kunnathoor tehsildar Nizam, who conducted the inquest, were also called as witnesses in the case.

Kiran’s grandfather’s son Anil Kumar, a security guard, and his wife Bindukumari, a health department employee, had changed their statements in court. With this, the witnesses were declared dissenters. Bindukumari was pronounced dead at the hospital by Special Prosecutor G Mohanraj.

Kiran’s father Sadasivan Pillai had objected that he did not tell anyone about the paper he had handed over to the police. Sadasivan Pillai said that Kiran had a quarrel with Vismaya over the lack of gold.

Kiran’s sister Keerthi said that there was no dispute between Kiran and Vismaya regarding the dowry. Following this, Keerthi was also declared to have defected.
