Kay Voges wants to secure national and international attention for the Cologne drama as future artistic director. “Through its content and aesthetic orientation, Schauspiel Köln will have a unique selling point within the German-speaking theater landscape,” said the theater maker, who will head the Volkstheater Wien until 2025, on Tuesday at a joint press conference with Mayor Henriette Reker (independent).

Voges arrives for the 2025/26 season. By then, the Cologne drama should have moved back to the renovated main building in the city center following more than a decade in transitional quarters. “This is one of the top stages in Europe that is currently being built,” said Voges, who had just visited the construction site of the post-war house.
