It is with Hyundai Mobis, the equipment supplier of Hyundai and Kia, that Volkswagen turned to obtain new electric platforms. It would seem that VW will use the Hyundai Mobis platform for its future ID.2 (the electric Polo) – among others – which is scheduled for release in 2025. The partnership covers the supply of the assembly of the battery system but also the management battery by software.

What to reduce the price for customers

For Hyundai Mobis, this is of course a beneficial operation. But it might also be for customers of future electric city cars from the Volkswagen group. Indeed, by sourcing from other automobile groups, VW reduces its research and development costs, which should be felt in the prices for the end customer.

Remember that VW has announced that its ID.2 will be offered for less than €25,000.
