Volleyball, to forget the horror of the war in Ukraine

“Come on girls! Come on, come on, come on!”

These few words, chanted in the language of Molière almost between each point – including when she observes her partners from the sidelines – testify to the investment and efforts shown by Valentyna Osypchuk. It is also proof of how she has adapted to her new daily life.

Arriving in France a little over a year ago, the Ukrainian receiver-attacker, who celebrated her 24th birthday in August, believes she feels “GOOD” in Saint-Laurent-du-Var. “Not like home, but almost”assures his coach, also from Ukraine, Sacha Fomina.

With her, exchanges are made easier because they are done in Russian. “Valentyna speaks good English. She is starting to understand almost everything we can say in French, but between us, especially during matches, we express ourselves in Russian. For a question of fluidity of course, but also so that the opponent does not understand the instructions that I can give him.laughs the technician, native of Luhansk in Donbass (in eastern Ukraine).

Many supports

Valentyna Osypchuk, who passed through Macedonia for a year after leaving Ukraine, benefits from other benchmarks, real anchor points. Starting with her teammates, whom she considers today as “girlfriends“. There is also his companion, also Ukrainian.

His mother and other members of his family, for their part, remained in the country. “Her mother was able to come to France for a few months in 2022, but this year she did not have the opportunity”, breathes Fomina. Suffice to say that for the volleyball player “very family”this is truly heartbreaking.

Fortunately, to ensure even more comfort in her integration, and to allow her to evolve in the best conditions, the number 2 of the VBSL can count on the unfailing support of her club.

“She signed an employment contract with us, essential given her immigrant status. And we found her an apartment”explains its president, Gérard Rémond.

Enough to make her fully fulfilled? We have to believe so, judging by the broad smile she constantly displays, and which is undoubtedly also explained by the victory obtained quite easily against Mulhouse (3-0) last Saturday.

VBSL in Mauguio, Saturday

A week after its success against Mulhouse at home, Sacha Fomina’s group will travel to Hérault this Saturday to challenge Mauguio. With the ambition to continue, and to get closer to Clamart, leader of the group.
