VOLVO x Epic Games collaborate on “Fortnite” graphics engine to create electric car entertainment system

VOLVO, a famous European car brand, has announced a partnership with game maker Epic Games to build a new infotainment system with a virtual engine for the next-generation electric flagship car to enhance the visual experience of car owners while driving.

The new car will introduce a virtual engine used in online games such as “Fortnite” to use this 3D image creation tool to provide the vehicle’s infotainment system interface. The interface will have real-time drawing capabilities.Henrik Green, head of VOLVO automotive products, pointed out that the interior of the next-generation flagship electric vehicle will have more functions. Through the virtual engine, the real-time response capability of the interior of the car will be presented in an immersive visual first. Heiko Wenczel, director of automotive engine at Epic Games, said that Epic Games will add interactive high-resolution real-time image technology to the in-vehicle system to develop a virtual engine, so that car owners can have a new visual enjoyment while driving.

Epic Games is an interactive entertainment and software development company that owns the well-known game “Fortnite”. The virtual engine developed by the company is recognized as the most advanced. After the cooperation, VOLVO will become the first luxury car manufacturer to use virtual engines to develop in-vehicle infotainment systems with real-time graphics capabilities.
