Former first-team captain Steve von Bergen has signed a 3-year contract as Young Boys’ new sporting director. The Neuchâtelois will work under the direction of Christoph Spycher.
The latter retains responsibility for the sports department but with expanded functions. As a delegate of the board of directors, Christoph Spycher will in future be part of both the board and the management and will lead the sports commission, the Bernese club announced on Wednesday.
Von Bergen (38) will work closely with him. The former defender ended his playing career in the summer of 2019. He then worked for the next generation and had been the first team’s interim assistant coach since last March.
The club says it is happy to have been able to keep Spycher, coveted by Bundesliga clubs, and the interested party declares himself delighted to see the scope of action of the sports management widened with the appointment of von Bergen.
