Von der Leyen sees a need to talk about batteries with the USA – grid policy

The EU Commission sees a further need for talks with the USA regarding the US subsidy package to promote climate-friendly technologies. In the case of e-cars, it has already been possible to avert disadvantages for European manufacturers, said Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday following a discussion with the federal cabinet in Meseberg. But work is still needed on batteries and battery components. It’s actually good that the US is dedicated to fighting climate change. But the massive tax breaks and the “clear ‘buy American’ rules” also bring difficulties. Von der Leyen wants to hold talks in Washington in the coming days. Chancellor Olaf Scholz was with US President Joe Biden on Friday.
