Amid rising military tensions in the sensitive Taiwan Strait, Taiwan’s Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng warned that the island must be on alert this year for the Chinese military’s “sudden entry” into areas close to its territory.
Responding to questions from a lawmaker, Chiu said the Chinese People’s Liberation Army might find excuses to enter areas close to Taiwan’s territorial sea and airspace as the island ramps up military exchanges with the United States.
