Head of a Jesus statue cut off, nose and mouth sawn off – SPÖ/neos have to provide answers

Vienna (OTS) – The destruction of a Christian place of worship in our city was unthinkable for many people – yesterday’s attack shocked: “We are currently experiencing increasing attacks against Jews and Christians in the middle of Vienna – most recently also on the campus of religions. The city government can no longer close its eyes to the development in certain problem areas. If we want to prevent problems like in Paris or Malmö, we have to take countermeasures now,” said the integration spokeswoman for the Vienna People’s Party, municipal councilor Caroline Hungerländer, in a first statement. In addition to the enlightenment by the police, politicians, above all the SPÖ and neos, must take the worrying developments in our city seriously.

“Local believers are very scared and their safety threatened. The way in which the prayer garden was devastated clearly shows that it was not a classic case of youthful carelessness and harmless vandalism,” said Leon Wassiq, district party chairman of the Viennese People’s Party in Floridsdorf. The mouth and nose of the statue of Jesus were sawed off and the head was chopped off.

“The destruction of the prayer garden in Floridsdorf is an attack on religious freedom. There can be zero tolerance here,” Hungerländer concluded.
