VP-Taborsky/Marchetti: Spiral of violence in Favoriten – mass brawl at the Viktor Adler market

Violence among immigrant groups shows the market office and city government need to take action

Vienna (OTS) – Another violent incident occurred in Favoriten on Saturday afternoon. At the farmers’ market on Leibnizgasse, a violent confrontation between four men escalated, with a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old attacking their opponents with metal rods. In addition, the police and rescue teams were prevented from working by numerous onlookers.

“This mass brawl once again illustrates how groups of men with an obvious migrant background not only trade at the Viktor Adler Market, but are also involved in violent conflicts. It is worrying that this is not the first such event. In addition, so-called ‘onlookers’, presumably members of the individual groups themselves, actively try to block police work. “Here, parallel societies in Vienna that are increasingly developing into counter-societies are becoming apparent, while those responsible in the city remain inactive,” warns the security spokesman for the Vienna People’s Party, local councilor Hannes Taborsky.

Alarming development in Favoriten – Karl Mahrer was right again

The police had to arrest two men, a Syrian and an Austrian. A 44-year-old was injured and required emergency medical care. The two people arrested did not confess and pointed to financial debts as the trigger for the argument.

“We have to take the alarming development between Reumannplatz and Keplerplatz seriously. The Viktor Adler market is showing signs of developing towards conditions like those we know from Neukölln in Berlin, where the police can only operate with special units. It is time for the city government and the market office to intervene before immigrant groups enforce the law independently,” adds the district party chairman of the Vienna People’s Party Favoriten, MP. e.g. National Councilor Nico Marchetti.

“Karl Mahrer’s statements are also confirmed in this case. The principle of the People’s Party is to look instead of looking away. Now we need common solutions across all party lines. Because the safety of the people of Vienna must always be the top priority,” conclude Taborsky and Marchetti.
