VSV/Kolba: KELAG threatens electricity customers – VSV advises basic supply

Stop power cuts by applying for basic services

Vienna (OTS) In order to implement a further price increase for electricity customers, KELAG has terminated all customers and asked them to conclude a new contract by September 1, 2023, otherwise there is a risk of a power cut in two weeks. 5,000 customers have not yet responded to this.

“KELAG is not even afraid of threatening to cut off the electricity to around 5,000 customers who have so far resisted before Christmas,” says Peter Kolba, chief lawyer at the Consumer Protection Association (VSV).

“In order to prevent power cuts, we recommend submitting applications to KELAG for basic supply. The VSV also supports lawsuits against this notice of change because the regulations for price increases in the Electricity Industry Act (ElWOG) are circumvented.”

This shows how important the regulations on basic services are and there is a risk that these will be restricted – due to pressure from the energy companies.

The VSV therefore calls on the parliamentary parties to leave basic services untouched if the law is renewed – an ElWG is being planned.
