Vulnerable residents of Ñeembucú received wheelchairs through Itaipu

Asunción, IP Agency.- Itaipu Binacional delivered a batch of 42 wheelchairs and nine technical aids to residents of Pilar and surrounding districts; located in the department of Ñeembucú. The strategic alliance between Binacional and Fundación Solidaridad makes it possible to transform the lives of people with disabilities.

Of the total number of wheelchairs provided, three have special features; while technical aids include four four-pointed canes; two pairs of Canadian walking sticks; two single-ended canes and a gel anti-decubitus cushion.

The event, which was held in the facilities used at the time for the Regional Market, had the support of volunteers and was attended by beneficiaries who reside in the surrounding towns. The day before the deliveries, 49 people were evaluated.

The solidarity day is part of the agreement called “Delivery of wheelchairs and technical aids in the social field to mitigate the needs of people with physical disabilities from vulnerable sectors, improving their quality of life and that of their family.”

The families of the beneficiaries highlighted that, with the support of the Entity, compatriots with disabilities who need a wheelchair can lead a more dignified life, with greater independence and, at the same time, it allows them to carry out work activities that were not available before. at your reach.

“This gift will make it much easier for us to feed our little princess, which was previously very difficult for us due to her involuntary movement. We will also use it to transport her to go to church, the park, her physical therapy and visit her grandparents. We thank Itaipu,” said Gregorio Ovella, father of a girl who received technical help.

Itaipu clarified that users are evaluated by specialists from the Solidaridad Foundation’s team of professionals. This is due to the need to know the physical and pathological conditions of those who are going to use the tools; as well as the environment and the use that they will give it.

This agreement has the objective of assisting 1,680 people with disabilities in total and 42 days of evaluations are planned (28 have already been carried out). The goal is to deliver 1,176 equipped wheelchairs (standard type – active all-terrain), appropriate to the pathologies and contexts of the users.

Likewise, the delivery of another 420 technical aids is contemplated, such as walkers, axillary crutches, Canadian crutches, anti-decubitus cushion and cane.
