From January 2024, 110,000 employees in the metal industry will receive 8.5 percent higher KV minimum wages and 8.2 percent higher actual wages. 18,000 apprentices receive up to 16.5 percent more – and, uniquely in Austria, a climate ticket as part of a KV. The PRO-GE union announced this in the evening.
Furthermore, an increase has already been agreed for January 1, 2025. The collectively agreed minimum wages then increase by the rolling inflation rate. The actual wages will be increased by the inflation rate plus 0.5 percent. The observation period for inflation was set as November 2023 to October 2024.
2,424 euros minimum wage
From January 2024, the minimum wage will be 2,424.45 euros. “For a young skilled worker, this results in an increase of around 220 euros per month,” said PRO-GE chief negotiator Reinhold Binder. The overall package secures purchasing power and at the same time takes into account the challenging economic situation of many small businesses.
Apprentice incomes are increased gradually over the years. With an increase of 16.5 percent, the youngest young professionals will receive 932 euros in their first year. Incomes in the second and third years will be increased by 8.5 percent and in the fourth year by 7.8 percent.
Allowances and expense allowances increase
The allowances and expense allowances, like the KV minimum wages, increase by 8.5 percent. According to the union, it was also agreed that overtime pay for the 11th and 12th hours or after the 50th hour would be increased from 75 percent to 100 percent.
With the climate ticket you can normally travel as a young person on public transport through Austria for a year starting at 821 euros. This price also applies to seniors and people with disabilities. It regularly costs 1,095 euros.
