9:06 a.m .: The French in Shanghai pass their turn again
The French in China began voting in the second round of the presidential election on Sunday, but those in Shanghai are again deprived of the ballot due to the quarantine of the Chinese economic capital. The Chinese authorities have judged that the right to vote of the French was not a reason to break their confinement, and no electronic or postal voting system has been put in place.
“Voting is super important for all French people, especially when you’re abroad, especially right now,” says Emma, a Frenchwoman who has lived in Shanghai for eight years. “We are already far enough when we are in China, even more with the confinement and the canceled flights. The right to vote, to be taken away from us, is hard”.
