During the plenary session of the Committee of the Regions, Governor Markus Wallner (ÖVP) was elected Vice President of the Committee of the Regions (CoR) on Thursday evening. He will also take over the management of the Austrian delegation in this assembly of regional and local representatives of the EU.

On Thursday evening, Governor Markus Wallner was elected Vice-President of the Committee of the Regions by a large majority in the plenary session in Brussels. Wallner stated that the European Union was of enormous importance for Vorarlberg, especially as a country with an export-oriented economy. “Decisions at EU level affect all areas of life. This opens up a wide range of opportunities for us. But in order to have a say in these decisions and to make one’s voice heard in Brussels, Vorarlberg must have a strong local voice,” he emphasized.

The representation of the country’s interests is therefore the focus of his work in the CoR. Before Wallner, Tyrol’s former governor Günther Platter was vice president and head of delegation. At the time of the election in Brussels, Governor Wallner was in Vienna for the Governors’ Conference.
