The first Russian soldier to face trial in Ukraine for war crimes has pleaded guilty. When asked if he was guilty of charges including war crimes and premeditated murder, 21-year-old Vadim Shishimarin, a soldier, answered yes.
Shishimar is also accused of killing a 62-year-old civilian in northeastern Ukraine in the early days of military action.
Shishimarin was the unit commander of the Tank Division of the Russian Army. The court may sentence him to life imprisonment for pleading guilty. The Kremlin responded that it had not been officially notified of the case or the trial.
