War in the Middle East: “Pros and Cons” about a possible ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

On Tuesday at 10:25 p.m. “Pro and Contra” on JOYN and PULS 4 will discuss the struggle for a peaceful solution to the conflict in the Middle East.

Vienna (OTS) – The pressure on Israel is increasing. For the first time since the start of the war, the UN Security Council is calling for an “immediate ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip. This resolution, which is binding under international law, comes about due to the abstention of the USA – traditionally Israel’s closest ally. US President Joe Biden calls for the expansion of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population in Gaza and warns Israel against expanding the ground offensive on Rafah. Around 1.5 million Palestinians have sought refuge in the city since the start of the war.

Despite all criticism of the conduct of the war, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is sticking to his plans for an offensive. Only in this way could Hamas be finally defeated. Thousands of Israelis see this differently: Last Saturday they demonstrated against Netanyahu’s policies and for new elections. According to media reports, the Israeli politician is said to be ready for a compromise in the ongoing negotiations regarding the release of Israeli hostages.

Does Israel have to abandon its war goals? Can there be a good solution for both sides? And when does criticism of Israel become anti-Semitism?
