This Monday, January 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of the Russians’ desire to intensify their attacks.

Russia has launched its “great revenge” to punish Ukraine’s resistance to its invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday (January 30th), after the Russian military claimed gains in eastern Ukraine.

For weeks, Volodymyr Zelensky has been warning of Moscow’s desire to intensify its offensive in the face of the failure of Russian troops to advance for two months on the front lines in the south and east of the country.

“She has already started it”

If there is no indication for the moment of a new major offensive by Russia, the administrator of the parts of the province of Donetsk under Russian control, Denis Pushilin, affirmed during the day that the Russian army had succeeded in s set up in Vouhledar, a mining town whose ruins have served as a Ukrainian bastion since the start of the war.

Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian attacks in eastern Ukraine were unabated, despite heavy losses to Russian troops, describing the upswing as revenge against Ukrainian resistance.

“I believe Russia really wants its big revenge. It has already started it,” the leader told reporters from the southern port city of Odessa. “Every day, either they send more soldiers or we see an increased number” of mercenaries from the Russian paramilitary group Wagner, he added.
