Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin- A New Player’s Guide to the Fantasy Setting

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin isn’t incomprehensible to new players, as we found out when we chatted with lead designer Sandy Sammarco at Gamescom. Before getting into the newbie stuff, we talked about the multiple factions in the game, the campaign, how many POVs it will include, and more. Warhammer Age of Sigmar is already a very popular fantasy setting, but RTS fans looking for a new hit may be frustrated because they know nothing about the universe. However, Sammarco sees the game as a great opportunity for both die-hard fans to get a new story and for new fans to jump into the Age of Sigmar setting. “Age of Sigmar is a brilliant concept because it’s filled with these fantastical creatures and monsters and eight mortal realms that are made entirely of magic,” he said. “But at the end of the day, it also has some very clear concepts of good and evil, lore and chaos. “So you don’t need to know all the in-depth lore to know about the Stormcasters, they’re the good guys, right? They try to do something, and they’re always troubled by people like the sinister Cruboyz. They are absolutely bad people. The story we’re telling in the single-player campaign, yes, we’ve done our due diligence. Gav Thorpe, great guy, big jump on Gav. He was great to work with and he gave it a real Warhammer flair. But you don’t need to know all the details. Hopefully it’s a very clear story about good and evil, heroes and villains, and how their nature drives them to act the way they do to achieve what they want to achieve. Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin launches on November 17th on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our full interview below, and our preview here.
