Warning level lowered again after volcanic eruption in Hawaii

Breathe a sigh of relief in Hawaii: After the eruption of the Kilauea volcano, there seems to be no immediate danger to people. The responsible observatories on the islands assume this. As the situation is currently developing, no infrastructure is threatened. The mountain spits lava fountains up to 30 meters high, so far only in the summit zone at a good 1200 meters. The earthquake station warned of dangerous gases in the area.

Kīlauea is part of a chain of volcanoes, the Hawaiian-Emperor chain. The Kilauea is located southeast of the 4170 meter high Mauna Loa on the largest island of the Hawaiian chain of islands, which itself is also called “Hawaii” or “Big Island”. Mauna Loa erupted in late November but is currently quiet.
