Warren: Trump’s Empty Promises Frustrate Americans | [Year]

by

President Donald Trump called Senator Elizabeth Warren on Monday following her speech at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., where she criticized his administration’s economic policies and record on affordability, according to Warren’s statement.

During the speech, Warren asserted that Trump has consistently increased costs for families, despite promising to lower them upon taking office. She specifically called on the President to support legislation capping credit card interest rates and urged him to persuade House Republicans to pass the bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act, which aims to increase housing supply and reduce housing costs.

“I told him that Congress can pass legislation to cap credit card rates if he will actually fight for it,” Warren stated. “I also urged him to get House Republicans to pass the bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act,”

The call came after Warren delivered remarks at the National Press Club event and responded to questions from reporters. She reiterated her position that Trump’s policies have failed to deliver on promises of economic relief for American families. According to a CNN report aired on February 23, 2026, Warren has repeatedly characterized Trump’s approach as “all talk and no action” regarding credit card rate caps.

In an op-ed published by Fox News, Warren further elaborated on the issue of credit card interest rates, accusing Trump of breaking a promise to address the issue. She noted that a deadline set by the administration for credit card companies to lower rates had passed without any enforcement action. Warren also criticized the administration for what she described as a weakening of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, hindering its ability to regulate credit card practices.

A White House official confirmed the call, stating that Trump and Warren had a “productive” conversation regarding credit card interest rates and housing affordability. However, the official did not provide details on specific commitments made during the call.

Warren has previously accused Trump of policies that she believes harm American consumers, including the imposition of tariffs that she argues have increased costs for businesses and individuals. In 2025, she called for the federal government to refund money lost due to Trump’s tariffs, claiming it had been “stolen” from Americans.

As of Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the White House has not announced any specific legislative actions or policy changes related to credit card rates or housing affordability following the call between Trump and Warren. The status of the ROAD to Housing Act remains pending in the House of Representatives.
