Washington approves Turkey’s request to spell name “Türkiye” instead of “Turkey”

The US State Department on Thursday accepted Turkey’s demand to call the country “Türkiye” from now on. From now on, in official documents regarding Turkey, Washington will refer to ‘Türkiye’, and no longer use ‘Turkey’. Ankara has long been angered by cartoons and other references linking the country to turkeys – ‘turkey’ is the English word for turkey.
