The United States on Tuesday formally described the military takeover in Niger this summer as a coup d’état and consequently announced the elimination of some 500 million dollars in economic aid. On July 26, the military deposed and detained the elected president, Mohamed Bazoum, a partner of the West in the fight against jihadist groups in the Sahel.

Liberians voted on Tuesday to choose their future president, with incumbent and former world football star George Weah starting as favorite against 19 competitors. More than 2.4 million voters were called to the polls in this small English-speaking country in West Africa which dreams of development and peace after years marked by wars and epidemics. In addition to their president, they also chose their 73 representatives and 15 senators.

In Tunisia, since the Hamas attack and the Israeli response, support has been overwhelmingly pro-Palestinian, accentuated by the position of President Kaïs Saïed who announced on Monday that he wanted to provide Tunisian aid via the transfer of wounded Palestinians to Tunisia. He announced his unconditional and total support for the Palestinians in a statement on October 7, published a few hours after the Hamas attack. Today, Tunisians are closely following the war and expressing their solidarity with the Palestinians through peaceful demonstrations.
