Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Tuesday for a ban on Russia in “all the world’s ports and airports”, in response to its invasion of his country.
In a video message posted on Facebook, Zelensky said that “such a country should be denied entry to all ports, canals and airports in the world.”
Zelensky called on the international community to “consider completely closing its airspace to Russian missiles, aircraft and helicopters.”
Regarding Russian attacks on his country, Zelensky advised Russia not to “waste its time” in Ukraine.
European sanctions
And the French presidency announced, on Monday, that the Europeans and their allies are ready to impose additional sanctions on Russia, after a video meeting that included the leaders of France, the United States, Britain, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland and Romania, in addition to representatives of the European Union and NATO.
The French presidency considered that the measures discussed during the meeting will open the way for targeting additional banks, more oligarchs, and even the Russian sovereign fund.
The presidency said, “Other sanctions will be imposed, this is a priority,” and this can be done “in the coming days” because “the urgent matter is to increase the cost of war on President (Vladimir) Putin,” considering that the sanctions previously imposed “cause more pain than the president expected.” Putin.”
Advisers to the French presidency indicated that “there is a large margin for maneuvering” following Macron’s video meeting with US President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Japanese Fumio Kishida, and the Polish presidents. Andrzej Duda, Romanian Klaus Iohannis, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
She pointed out that targeting Russian interests has repercussions on European economies, “but given the seriousness of what (Russian President) Vladimir Putin is doing, the option to increase the cost of war on him is clear and unambiguous,” stressing that the goal is “to make him realize that the cost is exorbitant and that He changes his position.
“We will impose the necessary sanctions to achieve this goal,” the French presidency added.
