Watford dismiss Rob Edwards and appoint Slaven Bilic

Watford have decided to part ways with coach Rob Edwards and replace him with Croatian Slaven Bilic. After ten days in the Championship (D2), the London club, relegated at the end of last season, is in tenth place in the standings (three wins, five draws and two losses) and was eliminated from the League Cup by Milton Keynes ( 0-2, August 23), 18th in League One (D3). Bilic, 54, had been without a club since leaving Beijing Guoan (CHI) on January 8.

“As with all decisions made by the board, I believe this change is in the best interest of the club.Hornets owner Gino Pozzo said in a statement. We felt that Rob had enough time to show us his team identity, but the performances did not reflect our hopes and ambitions. Now we have to move forward, and in Slaven Bilic we have a manager who has recent Premier League promotion experience. »

It was with West Bromwich Albion (2020), after a stint at West Ham (2015-November 2017). Former Welsh international Edwards, who arrived at the start of the season, is the 17th manager to be sacked since the Pozzo family took over Watford ten years ago.
