”At around 8:30 a.m., the school administration was alerted of a bomb threat. The establishment, located at 62 avenue Félix Marchal, in Schaerbeek, was immediately evacuated,” indicated the spokesperson for the police zone concerned.

Primary and secondary students were dismissed for the day, and parents were notified.

Saint-Gertrude College in Nivelles was also alerted. Pierre Huart, the mayor of the commune, confirms that the operation is underway: “We took care of the children, they were moved and welcomed at Waux-Hall and at the Dodaine sports center” explains the mayor. Pierre Huart informs that he was informed around 9:20 a.m. this morning, the 1,300 students were already present in the school. They were evacuated first to the Grand Place before being directed to the two locations. The 400-500 students installed at Waux-Hall will be taken back by their parents, the city has set up a kiss and ride to allow the evacuation of the building. Then, the children present at Dodaine will be repatriated to Waux. They will also be supplied with water and food by municipal services, informs Pierre Huart.

For the moment, the mayor remains awaiting further news from the emergency services. The college will remain closed for the entire day Thursday.

A wave of bomb threats in several schools in Brussels and Walloon Brabant of the Wallonia-Brussels Education (WBE) network was noted at the end of October and the beginning of November.
