Stan Wawrinka (ATP 82) is having a tough time this year: in four tournament starts, the 39-year-old was eliminated three times in the starting round and only survived the first hurdle in Buenos Aires. Albert Ramos (ATP 103) came in handy as his first opponent at the ATP 250 event in Marrakesh.
At the start of the clay court season, Wawrinka easily beat the Spaniard 6:1, 6:4. Despite a weak annual result, the Swiss’s success was not a big surprise. The three-time Grand Slam champion had already won all of the previous 8 duels with Ramos.

Five days after his 39th birthday, Wawrinka didn’t give the Spaniard, who was three years his junior, a chance in Morocco.
- In the first set he quickly took the lead with two breaks and made it 5-0.
- In the second round he made the decisive service breakthrough after a rebreak from Ramos to make it 5:4.
- In total the game only lasts 75 minutes.
In the round of 16, Wawrinka will face the up-and-coming Argentinian Mariano Navone (ATP 60). The 23-year-old reached the final as a qualifier at the ATP 500 tournament in Rio de Janeiro in mid-February. Sand specialist Navone had not previously won a match on the ATP tour.
