DC United driver Wayne Rooney says Lionel Messi “won’t find it easy” in MLS as he joins Inter Miami.
In an interview given to Times from London, the Manchester United legend says many players come to MLS and find it difficult to adapt and that Messi may be no different to others.
“Everything is ready for him,” Rooney said. He has all his relatives! [Sergio] Busquets and Jordi Alba signed with Inter Miami and maybe [Andres] Iniesta will join them. Luis Suárez too. Messi has a coach [Tata Martino] whom he loves and whom he trusts. It is huge, especially with what is happening in Saudi Arabia, that MLS attracted Messi. »

After leaving Manchester after 14 seasons, Rooney played 52 games for DC United over a two-year spell from 2018 to 2020, scoring 25 goals, before returning as manager last July.
Messi will be presented at an event by Inter Miami in Fort Lauderdale later on Sunday.
The Argentine striker joins Miami after leaving French champions Paris Saint-Germain after two seasons. He signed a contract until the end of the 2025 season.
The club said Messi would first be available for selection in a July 21 League Cup tie against Mexican side Cruz Azul.
