Pairi Daiza announced very sad news this Thursday afternoon on social networks. Petrushka, one of four female walruses at the wildlife park, lost her life giving birth to her baby. A fetal dystocia is the cause of this double loss and left the two marine mammals no chance.

“We are in shock and we are all deeply affected by this loss. The baby’s position left Petrushka and the cub no chance. The baby of about fifty kilos presented itself very badly. Fetal dystocia, whether in nature or among humans, for mammals of this type, unfortunately leaves no chance of a favorable outcome,” explains Tim Bouts, veterinarian at Pairi Daiza.
