“We don’t work because Guinean justice is rotten”, says Mory Donzo

As promised by FESABAG, primary banks are closed this Monday, July 18, 2022, in Conakry. Their employees have decided not to work today because of the summons of their union leader Abdoulaye Sow, to the DPJ. They denounce the Guinean justice which made the decisions at the origin of this crisis in the banking sector, noted Guineematin.com, through one of its journalists.

Despite the assurances given by the APB (the professional association of banks), in a statement released last night, the primary banks are closed this Monday, in Conakry. Workers in the banking sector mobilized this morning to accompany the secretary general of the FESABAG (Autonomous Trade Union Federation of Banks, Insurance and Microfinance of Guinea) to the DPJ, where he was summoned. They gathered in front of the central direction of the judicial police, in Kaloum, to sing the national anthem and accompany Abdoulaye Sow to the front of the DPJ.

Mory Donzo, employee at Ecobank

Asked in the middle of demonstrators by a reporter from Guineematin.com, Mory Donzo, believes that it is Guinean justice that caused this crisis, by making bad decisions. “We are not working today, because Guinean justice is rotten. You are aware that in the legal file concerning Ecobank, there was a first judgment which was rendered against the client who was suing the bank. But recently, he appealed, and the corrupt judges ruled in his favor. It was asked now to enter our. And it is against this decision that we are protesting. We are here to denounce this ill-founded judgment,” he said.

The court decisions that these bank workers are contesting concern Ecobank and Afriland First Bank. These two banking institutions were ordered to pay several billion Guinean francs to clients who were suing them. And, it is following a declaration published last Wednesday by the FESABAG to denounce these decisions that the general secretary of the union organization was summoned to the premises of the judicial police. The public prosecutor’s office at the Conakry Court of Appeal instructed the public prosecutor at the Kaloum TPI to initiate legal proceedings against the authors of this statement.
