The Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez, provided details about the case of several guards of the Penitentiary System (SP) who have been captured for integrating, along with several inmates, a network of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Given the case that showed this structure in the prisons and the crimes that have entered the main prisons of the country, the official He stated that they are working to increase controls in prisons.
Among the measures that are available, it is planned to acquire scanners and cameras, as well as the construction of new prison centers.
Jiménez said regarding the guards who were linked to criminal proceedings for the crime of breach of duties, They will not be reinstated to their jobs.
He added that human trafficking and sexual exploitation within prisons is recurrent and among the victims there are minors.
“The investigation continues and “We are going to continue working to deduce responsibilities if there are any,” he explained.

“The problem is that We find a Penitentiary System without controls (…) in which many of the guards are involved,” Jiménez explained, regarding the situation in the prisons.
He added that the new prison that is planned to be built will be ready in October 2025, and that it will be a prison, precisely, with a series of security systems to avoid this type of crime.
Jiménez explained that among the actions that will be taken is the integration of a technical table with the two most important telephone operators in the country to block calls inside the prisons and they are already finding ways to do this.
