Appearing among the major sagas of Japanese video games – notably in the company of Resident Evil et Final Fantasy – series Metal Gear revolutionized the entertainment industry. Driven by the audacious and most often relevant ideas of its creator Hideo Kojima, Konami’s license has enabled the medium to a giant leap in staging.

Influenced by his love of cinema, Kojima managed to spread, over 50 years and almost 10 main episodes, a story that has moved millions of playersevents of Snake Eater (1964) to those of Guns of the Patriots (2014). Achieving this feat isn’t just about gameplay or staging — it’s also about the quality of the characters which is to be honoredespecially since there are several of them to appear in at least 3 opuses of the main series.

When we deal with subjects as complicated as those of nuclear proliferation, genetic cloning, the exploitation of children in wars, the development of bacteriological weapons, scientific ethics or even artificial intelligences controlling people’s lives, it is better to be able to relate to something concrete.
And to the saga Metal Gear is still among the most popular in video game history, while the main episode dates back to 2015, which means that Hideo Kojima did it pretty well. The Boss, Otacon, Solid Snake… to get his messages across, the creator who believes he will live long after his death knows how to surround himself with the best messengers.
To realize our ranking of the 20 best characters in the series, so we had to rack our brains.
