Mark Zuckerberg, the head of the American giant Meta Corporation, revealed, on Friday, his position regarding a martial arts fight that the controversial American billionaire, Elon Musk, had announced earlier.

The heads of the competing giants “X” (formerly Twitter) and “Meta” discussed at the end of June the possibility of facing them in a videotaped fight in mixed martial arts (MMA), while there was talk a few days ago of August 26 as a possible date for this confrontation.

“Everything within the camera’s range will be the same as in the ancient Roman era, so there is nothing new about that,” Musk wrote on his X platform.

He noted that “the duel will be conducted” by the two rival networks.

Musk added, “I spoke to the Italian Prime Minister and the Minister of Culture. They gave their consent to (hold the event in) an exceptional place,” limiting himself in a second message to using one word, “wrestler.”

In response to Musk, Zuckerberg wrote later on Friday, through his new platform, “Threads”, which he launched last month to be a direct competitor to “X”: “I love this sport and I am ready to fight since Elon challenged me.”

But Zuckerberg added, “We have not yet agreed on what (Musk) says,” pointing to his desire to cooperate “with professional organizations,” including, for example, “UFC”, the Mixed Martial Arts Association, to supervise this potential match.

The two tech giants have clashed for years over their opposing views of the world, from politics to artificial intelligence, but the confrontation between them escalated further with the launch of Zuckerberg and his Meta group, which owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, early last month, the “Threads” application.

For his part, the Italian Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangioliano, said that he is discussing with Mask the organization of “a major charitable event that evokes history,” according to a statement issued Friday.

He noted that the potential event “will not be held in Rome,” ruling out the possibility of a duel in the Colosseum, as Musk mentioned at the end of June.

The minister added that the amount raised by the event, estimated at “millions of euros, will be donated to two Italian children’s hospitals,” expressing his hope to seize the opportunity to “promote the history” of his country.
